Milos Raonic is the “Canadian Male Player of the Year” for the third time – Tennis News
Ranked 13th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Milos Raonic, received the award of being the “Canadian Male Player of the Year” for the third time on the eve of Wednesday. He received his first award
in the year 2011 and recently bagged away the title due to his outstanding wins to bringing glory to his homeland.
Raonic in an interview told the media, "It is a great honour to receive this recognition from Tennis Canada again this year. It was a great season but I'm working to continue to grow and develop as a player. All the support I've
received this year from the Canadian fans has been incredible and I'm excited to see the growth of our sport continue in Canada."
The Thornhill native, commenced the year with a strong positive reinforcement as tennis professional. He won against the top seeded, Janko Tipsarevic, in the Aircel Chennai Open held at the hard courts of India and then made it
until the third round of the Australian Open. Irrespective of his endless struggle, he lost at the hands of the local challenger, Lleyton Hewitt, in a four-set match.
At the SAP Open held in the indoor hard courts of United States, he bagged away his straight sets win, 7-6(3), 6-2, in the title match against Denis Istomin. He faced an unexpected loss at the hands of the Jurgen Melzer in the
final round of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championship.
The 21-year-old was unable to demonstrate his real skills in the clay-court swing of the ATP season. He was unable to rally beyond the initial rounds against his challengers. At the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, he suffered a three
set loss at the hands of the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. At the French Open Grand Slam, after a tough battle, he lost at the hands of Juan Monaco.
At the Wimbledon, he received a shocker at the hands of American, Sam Querrey, and at the US Open; the British number one, Andy Murray, hampered his progress. His performance was satisfactory at the elite ATP tournaments and that
is why he was able to make it to the world top-10 rankings.
Alongside that, Daniel Nestor was the given the title of the “Doubles Player of the Year” for the 12 straight time. The Vancouver native, Filip Peliwo, pocketed away the award of the “Junior Player of the Year” due to his remarkable
