Milos Raonic will feature the Brisbane International competitive field next season – Tennis News
Canadian number one tennis player, Milos Raonic, is all set to kick off the 2013 ATP season from the hard courts of Australia and has confirmed his participation at the Brisbane International tennis tournament. The 21-year-old
youngster is among the four Top-20 contenders who have set their sights upon the season-opening event, scheduled to begin from 30th of December 2012 to 6th of January 2013.
Other big guns in the hunt for early glory in the new circuit include the likes of world number three, Andy Murray, former world number one Lleyton Hewitt, number 16th ranked Gilles Simon, the 18th ranked
Ukrainian, Alexandr Dolgopolov and the Japanese tennis prodigy, Kei Nishikori. It is expected to be a competitive players’ field and Raonic is among the hot favourites to pull out the championship title.
"I am really looking forward to playing at the Brisbane International," Raonic said. "The Brisbane tournament has been an appealing choice to make this time round because I really enjoy being in Australia, it makes the travel a
lot easier. I've played well in Australia and to be able to play in another city on the east coast is a good opportunity that I look forward to. I look forward to new experiences, good food and building some good memories there."
Currently holding the 13th spot in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Raonic had a decent run this year, winning 45 out of his 65 played matches and bagging two championship titles. He has a couple of
opportunities to improve his titles’ tally but couldn’t cash in the golden chances. However, he is still 21-year-old and has lots of seasons to play in his career.
Raonic took off his 2012 campaign from Aircel Chennai Open in India and won the season-opening title against the Serbian number two, Janko Tipsarevic. He then took part in the Australian open Grand Slam tournament but couldn’t
go past the third round, losing to the former world number one, Hewitt. He has opted out to play the Brisbane International, rather than Chennai Open next season, as it will give him better practice for his Grand Slam voyage following immediately afterwards.
