Milos Teodosic leads CSKA Moscow to an 81-78 win over Brose Baskets - Euroleague Recap
Injured Andrei Kirilenko will be returning to US and won’t be featuring in any more games for CSKA Moscow, but they should not be too bothered.
By downing Brose Baskets 81-78 just few hours ago to extend their unbeaten run, CSKA have made a strong point, Kirilenko or no Kirilenko, they still have enough power players in the team to lead them to victories and possibly the
Euroleague title.
However, this was not an easy win as CSKA were made to work hard until the very last minute. The scores were tied at 78 all with less than a minute to go and the pendulum could have swung either way, however, a moment of brilliance
was what separated both teams.
It came in the shape of Milos Teodosic’s three-pointer, which sealed the game for Russian giants. But nevertheless it was an exciting encounter and kept the crowd involved throughout.
All the giants from CSKA fired on the night.
Nenad Krstic paced Moscow with 20 points. Viktor Khryapa wasn’t far behind and accumulated 19 points including an outstanding 5 for 5 from the downtown, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Alexey Shved ended with 14 while Milos, who netted
the game deciding shot, sealed 12 points and dished out 5 assists.
For Brose, Marcus Slaughter scored the game high 21 points including 9 for 13 from the stripe. Anthony Tucker pounded 11 whereas Anton Gavel chipped in with 10.
Marcus and Tibor Pleiss got Brose off to a flyer, bolting a 10-4 burst; however it was countered by a fierce 11-2 run, keyed by Khryapa and Nenad, to put CSKA ahead by 15-12. A three by Casey Jacobsen again took Brose in front
but only for a short time.
CSKA reeled off an 8-0 run in the last few minutes to end the first quarter with a 7 point lead 25-18.
Brose started the second frame in style.
By scoring in quick succession, they managed to get as close as 27-26, however back to back three’s in next few minutes by Shved ensured CSKA stayed slightly ahead of the opponents. A 9-2 burst in the last 2 minutes by CSKA further
strengthened their lead and they found themselves ahead by 7 points 44-37.
Slaughter and Anton combined to bring the deficit down to 2 points (50-48) in first few minutes of the third frame. Brose managed to keep the lead in check but unfortunately, never managed to get ahead of the opponents at any instance,
and by the end of quarter, CSKA again found themselves ahead 67-62.
Entering the last 10 minutes, Brose knew they just needed to score few more points and then it will be anybody’s game.
They successfully did that.
Coming from behind, they levelled it at 78 all in the 40th minute and got a chance to seal it when Casey found himself in a perfect position to net a three. Unfortunately for Brose, he missed it and just seconds later,
Milos drilled one from the downtown to deprive Brose of a famous win.
