Milton Keynes to London & Vice Versa?

Hi,

I'm from europe and i'm going to a concert in Milton Keynes, UK at the end of this month and i have a few questions:

1) I want to go for a day shopping in London - Oxford Street. Can anyone suggest the best way to get there and back?

i know you can get there by train, but i've never been on a train before, but i dont really know how that works.. do i have to book from before or just show up at the station & buy the tickets ?

OR is it better to go by coach? Any other suggestions? - the easier the better.

2) I will be arriving in Luton Airport late at night, probably past midnight & i plan on getting a coach to Milton Keynes. Now if the coach does not take me directly to the hotel, will there be any taxis around late at night in the area?

thanks

  1. once you get to mk you you can phone a taxi - its much cheaper than getting a black cab

    heres some local phone numbers

if using a mobile/cell phone put the dial code 01908 first then the number

    skyline: 222111

    raffles 222222

    speedline 366666

if your using a pay phone you dont need the dial code first

you can get the train to london euston station from mk really fast, if you use virgin trains you can get there in just over 30mins because it goes direct from mk to london with no stops, it costs about £24 but with that ticket you can use all the underground trains too and you can use virgin or silverlink trains to get to and from london and mk

if you use silverlink trains it can take alot longer to get to euston because they tend to stop at alot of other train stations on the way

trains come back to mk until 1am so you can go out for a long time

if you want to know some more times / prices try this website

    www.thetrainline.co.uk

you dont have to buy tickets in advance, you can get them from the train station on the day, just be aware when coming back to milton keynes the trains get very full and you may have to stand or sit in between the carriages

it tends to be the trains coming back between 4pm - 8pm that get very full so if your planning on coming back a bit later you might be ok

    hope this helps

    :)

  2. 1) train is the best way, I have to go through milton keynes by train when I go to London, from milton keynes it is around 1hour long journey. You're best to not go too early otherwise it will cost more, get a train gone 9am then you will be able to get a cheap day return (remember that) and also ask for an underground pass to be included then you will be able to everywhere in london. it cant be any simpler, the train goes straight to it.

    2) taxis should be available! If you get there and there arn't any then you may have to ring up a company so have a couple of phone numbers ready.

Hope you have a great time!
