Milwaukee Brewers' GM Gord Ash has eye on St. Louis Cardinals-Philadelphia Phillies encounter
There are more to what Game 5 between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies holds. Not only will it be watched by the ardent fans of both teams, but also by the Milwaukee Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash.
Friday’s game comes at the wake of the two teams drawing the series 2-2 after the Cardinals demonstrated an amazing performance in the post-season National League Division Series. The most intriguing feature of the game is the rivalry between Chris Carpenter
and Roy Halladay.
Gord Ash was luckily the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays when both Halladay and Carpenter became friends after joining the team, journeying into the Major Leagues once they proved their efficacy in the Minor Leagues.
At a time when the Milwaukee Brewers are facing a tough battle of survival and ultimate victory in the NLDS, Ash’s interest in the game between the Cardinals and Phillies can partly be attributed to the result it will have.
Either of the two teams will take on the Brewers if they succeed in beating the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Since Ash has seen the two players make a steady rise into success, he has a story to chronicle.
"The torch got passed from [Roger] Clemens to [Pat] Hentgen and Hentgen to those two guys, and they were very close, very similar in terms of experience," Ash said. "They came up somewhat on the same path.”
There remains no doubt that both players saw highs and lows in their respective careers, as now they stand at the peak of their efforts.
"Chris came up and had some initial success and faltered a bit and had to go to back to Triple-A and came back. The same is well documented with Roy. I think they competed with each other and they pushed each other.”
With the Brewers looking for the success in Friday’s game, the fact that they’re looking at the results of the Phillies and Cardinals game will make the occasion all the more exciting.
