Milwaukee Brewers' Hiram Burgos added to 40-man roster – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers have added five more players to their 40-man roster. The move came on the Major League Baseball’s deadline to protect players by Tuesday, 10:59 p.m. CT. With it, the Milwaukee Brewers' roster now has 39 players, short of a player that they are expected to acquire soon.
Among the five players who have been added to roster are Scooter Gennett, outfielder Josh Prince, their Minor League pitcher of the Year Hiram Burgos, pitcher Nick Bucci and outfielder Khris Davis.
Milwaukee Brewers' assistant general manager Gord Ash had his views to share about the expected move. For the Brewers, the five players are assets that have to be properly managed, and protected.
"They've all excelled at various times over the course of the season at different levels," said the confident Gord Ash. "Probably even more important than that are the tools and ability they possess. We want to manage and protect our assets. We didn't want to lose any of the five."
While each player comes with a set of skills, bequeathed with talent and proper utilisation of it, it is Burgos who is being touted as a great asset for the Brewers. With 10-4 record in 28 games wherein he had 1.95 ERA in 27 starts, Burgos – like stated earlier, was the Brewers' Minor League Pitcher of the Year as well.
Brewers' assistant general manager Gord Ash has more to say about the pitcher.
"Everyone wants to put labels on him and he is a Shaun Marcum type," said Ash. "He has great command and without overpowering stuff he still has a knack for missing bats. It's hard to explain.”
According to Ash, the pitcher has the knack of getting out of trouble with the command of the strike zone he possesses. Such intangibles, as Ash puts, are what one looks in the pitcher.
With the pitcher of his like coming in the Milwaukee Brewers' roster, the club will have a dependable arm in the days to come. The past season might not have had an impressive end, the Brewers – however, envision a better future with the addition of a pitcher like Burgos to the roster.
This will also ensure a comparatively stronger rotation and bullpen in the coming season for the club. In a year wherein the Brewers had a struggling pitching line-up, the need for a pitcher like him has increased.
