Milwaukee Brewers' Marco Estrada may become a starter – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ reliever Marco Estrada stated on Wednesday, February 29, that he is doing all the same things he did the past year to get ready to pitch for the team. The reliever who has witnessed ascension in a surprisingly short period is all set
to even get his name slated as the Brewers’ starter.
"I feel good, but I'm not acting any different now," he said. "I'm doing all the same things as last year, because nothing is guaranteed."
His rise was in itself a bit unanticipated. While he was named as the member of Minor League minicamp for the club, there occurred an incident that expedited his appearance in the Major League Baseball regular season.
Zack Greinke, one of the prominent names of the Brewers’ bullpen, had a cracked a rib, rendering him unable to play. With such a situation that the Brewers were encountering, there were two options available for the team to replace Greinke.
Prospect Wily Peralta could not quite make it, resulting in the arrival of Estrada in the team. Once he got slated for the team, he did not look back again. Since then the player has worked ever harder to establish his credibility as a reliable pitcher.
"Last year, I didn't think I had a shot," he said. "My goal was just to get in the best shape that I could, and hopefully sometime down the line I would get an opportunity to get called up. Things changed."
It all happened really fast for the player as he admits. "It happened really fast," Estrada said. "I had maybe pitched one game over there when they called me over here and said they needed somebody to start."
In 65 games that he has played since his debut in 2008, Estrada has so far won four games, having had 5.08 ERA. The four wins that he scored actually came the past season in 43 games that he played, pitching 92.2 innings to have an ERA of 4.08.
It will now be a matter of time before the season starts. What is increasingly interesting to see is how Estrada attains what is expected of him.
