Milwaukee Brewers' Mike Fiers determined to pitch rest of the year – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' starter Mike Fiers said on Sunday, August 26, that he felt healthy enough to pitch the rest of the year. There were earlier rumours, neither corroborated nor denied, that Fiers might be shut down before the end of the season.
The reports coming here suggest the Brewers are actually considering his name for the rest of the season. Having pitched just over 148 innings – both in the Major and Minor Leagues combined, Fiers’ wearing out cannot be ruled out.
However, like said earlier, his stress lies on the fact that he is healthy enough.
"I feel fine, and I hope I pitch the rest of the year," Fiers said. "I feel like, if you're healthy, you might as well pitch. ... I understand the whole idea of saving your arm and that you don't want to overdo it, especially if they want to get a look at some younger guys.”
Brewers currently stand fourth in the National League Central as the Cincinnati Reds continue to retain the first spot. The Brewers, much to the chagrin of the fans, have not quite done what they were able to do the last season with their remarkable performance
While both the defence and offence have left a lot to be desired, Fiers has exerted himself tirelessly to improve a rough season for the Brewers. All said, the team manager Ron Roenicke had also said that he was not thinking about shutting down Fiers.
As for Fiers himself commented that he was better with his command and that he wanted to keep pitching.
Friers said, "I feel like, not that I'm stronger, but earlier in the year, I was maybe stronger, but I wasn't pitching right. Now that I'm in a groove, I'm pitching better, with better command, instead of throwing harder. I feel good and I want to keep throwing."
Apparently, the Brewers might well go with letting the pitcher in the active roster as the regular season nears end. He, after all, constitutes a powerful part of the Brewers rotation at a time when not a lot of things are going well for the club.
