Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun focused on victory in the last series of the season – MLB News
Milwaukee Brewers' left fielder Ryan Braun stated on Monday, October 1 that he is focused on the team winning in the last three games. The Brewers were eliminated from the Wild Card race after the Houston Astros beat them 2-1 in the three-game series.
Much as the performance was not up to the mark in the first half of the season, the Brewers had come across as an incredibly robust line-up in the second half, winning at one point, 24 of their 30 games.
However, in their last nine games, the Brewers lost six which resulted in the final elimination of the Brewers from a Wild Card berth. Nonetheless, Ryan Braun has remained an asset for the club throughout the season, having so far had 41 home-runs this season.
While there is an increasing competition for the National League in most RBIs, Braun is second with 112 as Chase Headley of the San Diego Padres stands first with 113. Nonetheless, Braun’s focus is purely the team’s victory, not the individual record.
"First and foremost is winning the game tonight and getting a winning record," he said Monday afternoon, with the Brewers having 81 victories. "From where we were, that means something."
Having appeared in 151 games this season, Braun has had 587 at-bats, having scored 105 runs with 112 home-runs to his credit coupled with 41 home-runs, maintaining an impressive .320 batting average with .600 slugging percentage.
The other competitor is Headley, whose record at Petco Park does not go unacknowledged and unnoticed as he has so far hit 31 homers at this specious ball park.
"To have that [production] in San Diego, that's pretty amazing," Roenicke said. "He needs to be talked about a lot more than he has been. To have that kind of year in that place? Phenomenal."
Be that as it may, the last series that the Brewers are playing, coming as it is at the wake of their elimination from the Wild Card race, they will definitely attempt to end the season with a positive note – especially after a year when they had made it to the postseason.
