Milwaukee Brewers' Shaun Marcum not sure about his return - MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers starter Shaun Marcum on Thursday, July 5, said that he is working hard to keep everything strong. The starter is currently having some problems in his elbow, which is of huge concern for the team as a whole.
Not being not on the mound since June 19, the absence of this accomplished starter has already done the damage. The team is lagging behind in the Division, staying at fourth in the table which is disconcerting for the team.
Marcum had shown his quality pitch during the season with 5-3 record, maintaining a 3.39 ERA. Back then, the starter had a total of 13 starts. Being consigned to the disabled list, the team has brought Mike Fiers to the roster.
The right elbow tightness might not have been regarded as worrying initially. However, as the season progressed, it became increasingly known that the problem was of a major concern that the team had to look into sooner than later.
Marcum, nonetheless, had a catching session on Thursday. The starter acknowledged that there still was some tenderness. That alone stands as the reason why Marcum cannot say with certainty when he will return to the team.
"There's still some tenderness in there," he said of the elbow. "It just depends on the day. A lot of that I think is due to workouts and stuff, working everything and keeping everything strong."
The team manager stated that he was not sure if Marcum will be able to return even after the All-Star break quickly. Which means the starter still has some problems to sort out.
The manager went so far as to say that he was unsure if the player will be able to make his appearance in July. "It's hard to guess now where he's going to show up," Roenicke said.
Marcum was of great support to the defence. The sooner he makes his comeback, the better it will be for the team. The Brewers which have struggled a great deal this season to get on their rivals with more confidence and winning spirit – something that was conspicuously seen the past season.
