Milwaukee Brewers' Yovani Gallardo seeks 11th win against Houston Astros – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo on Thursday, July 5, stated that he was awaiting the game against the Houston Astros, scheduled to be played on Friday. The Brewers’ starter has a wonderful record against the Astros in his career.
In the 12 appearances against the Astros, Gallardo has had 10 wins, losing only two games. Friday’s game will provide him another opportunity to improve the record, making it possibly the 11th win of his career against the Astros.
"As a starting pitcher, obviously, you want to stay out there as long as you can," said Gallardo. He has won six games this season, losing as many with 3.87 ERA. He will definitely wish to improve his record.
However, there are a lot of challenges that the team as a whole faces. It is pertinent to recall that the Brewers are fourth in the National League Central, a record that does not elicit any envy. A team that made it to the post-season last year has left a lot to be desired this season.
The prime problem to be addressed by the Brewers, among others, is their bullpen. The dynamism it once held seems to have faded away for inexplicable reasons. The team manager, Ron Roenicke, wants this changed and he thinks it can only come through confidence.
"That's always the way it is," Roenicke said. "With hitters, with pitchers, it comes with confidence. And you need to succeed usually to have confidence."
But the team manager does not believe that the bullpen alone can guarantee the team’s victory. He thinks it a combination of everything that can bring about the good result the team is awaiting.
"What we can do to improve, what's going to happen here after the break, what are we going to do with our starting pitcher," Roenicke said. "So, it's a little of everything."
With Friday’s start against the Houston Astros, the Brewers will certainly do well if they seek an absolute win over their rivals. It will enable the team to move up in the Division at a time when they sit fourth, something they might not have anticipated.
