Milwaukee Brewers' Zack Greinke and Mark Rogers face injuries at Spring Training camp
Spring Training can go well for most clubs, but the Milwaukee Brewers are coming across a few problems at camp in Glendale, Arizona. The ball club recently lost catcher, Jonathan Lucroy, to a pinkie finger injury. However, he’s not the only Brewer on the
losing end, as it appears the injury bug is running rampant in the camp. Zack Greinke and Mark Rogers are the other players to hit temporary set-backs with injuries.
Greinke’s scheduled work-out was pushed back a bit after the player bruised his rib cage during a batting practice session on Wednesday. The right hand pitcher is scheduled to take the mound back on Thursday. His injury has been considered as a minor one,
as the pitching coach, Rick Kranitz said he expects the player to rejoin the practice session soon.
Assistant to General Manager, Gord Ash, also had the opportunity to talk about the situation.
"He's not concerned about it, so this falls into the category of precautionary," Ash said. "Because there is some flexibility in the throwing program right now, it doesn't make much difference whether he throws batting practice on Wednesday or on Thursday."
Apart from Greinke, Rogers called off his Bullpen session after he claimed he felt tightness on his surgically repaired right shoulder. The player has been going through the sensation, since the start of Spring Training.
"In long toss I feel great, but letting it go, it's a little tight," Rogers said. "I don't want to push it now, and [the medical staff] said the same thing. Let's err on the side of caution and stay healthy as opposed to having a setback."
The player claims the tightness may have come through due to extra work relayed during Tuesday. Mark said he feels better than the time he had to get the surgery done on his shoulder, as he went on to say that the sensation is very different from his pre-surgery
condition. Mark has not been in a spring training camp without a restricted role since 2006.
It will be interesting to see how the Brewers manage the injuries to their players during Spring Training. The emphasis for the team is to begin the upcoming 2011 Major League Baseball season with healthy players.
