Milwaukee Brewers' Zack Greinke gets five-year extension offer – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' starter Zack Greinke on Friday, July 20, confirmed that he has got an extension offer for five-years, worth $100 million. The confirmation comes at a time when uncertainty over the future of the player in the wake of imminent deadline had been generating rumours.
But with the confirmation of the offer made to him, there is no certainty if the player will hasten to accept it. Greinke himself was not quite open in sharing the details pertaining to the offer even when he was pressed by the media.
"That's tricky stuff," Greinke said. "I don't want to get involved with telling you guys too much about it."
For the team manager Ron Roenicke, on the other hand, the offer reaffirms the fact that the Brewers have confidence in the pitcher, wanting to have him in the line-up to bolster the defence.
A quick look at the record of Greinke in last few games, however, brings to fore something not very reassuring. The fact that he has a 9.00 ERA in his four starts this month.
Nonetheless, like said earlier, the team has full confidence in Greinke to do his best in the upcoming games. "It's a confidence thing as much as anything," Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said. "It's getting back to that routine."
The extension offer to the Brewers’ Zack Greinke was reported this month. While the details related to offer was all confirmed by the Brewers' starter, he dismissed other things being part of the news.
"I don't know where those [reporters] get that stuff," Greinke said while referring to the aforementioned rumours. "These guys must have their sources really good. It's pretty interesting how political everything is, I guess with every job."
Greinke will take his time to make the final decision before the imminent Trade Deadline. For now, his focus appears to be Tuesday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
That game will definitely make a strong case for the Milwaukee Brewers’ starter whether or not he is in good form given the somewhat lack-lustre performance Greinke has had in July with 9.00 ERA in the four starts.
