Milwaukee Brewers' manager hopeful despite recent setbacks – MLB News
Despite the series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said on Sunday, July 22, that the team can make a rebound anytime. Ron Roenicke was referring to the increasing buzz over the recent performance of the team and the increased rumours about the trade of the players.
Which team does he take inspiration from as far as the comeback is concerned? It was St. Louis Cardinals, which did not fare well in the first-half of the season but staged a comeback in the second-half to win the World Series, beating the Texas Rangers.
"You never know when your team's going to click," Roenicke said "You look at last year with St. Louis and what they did. You can take it all the way to the last month of the season and be 'out of it' basically, and next thing you know, you do what they ended up doing last year."
However, the Brewers are confronted by what could be termed unforeseen challenges. With the lacklustre performance that has plagued the team to the injuries that are leaving deep impact on the outlook of the Brewers.
While the club was looking forward to the three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the World Series Champions proved to be unbeatable rivals at home, overwhelming the Brewers with apparent ease.
What constitutes a problem and adds to the ferocious competition within the National League Central, is the fact that the Cincinnati Reds sit atop the ranking, followed by the Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In other words, the Brewers have numerous obstacles to overcome if they want to make it to the post-season this time round.
"It's really hard," Roenicke said. "If you're just trying to chase one team, you're OK. You just have to get hot, they get a little cold spell, and maybe play a lot of games head to head. When you're facing three teams and you're down by a bit, it makes it difficult."
With just over nine games out of first place, whether the Brewers eventually rout the rivals or not is a question that does not apparently have an easy answer now. But the team’s morale and confidence seem intact.
