Milwaukee Brewers' pitchers continue making improvement in strikeouts – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' starter Yovani Gallardo on Monday, August 27, expressed his confidence in the club’s pitchers as they continue to maintain their Major League lead as far as strike-outs are concerned.
While the Brewers stand fourth in the National League Central Division ranking, their pitchers’ 1,089 strike-outs place them at the top in the Majors. Gallardo, for his part, is on track for his fourth consecutive 200-strike-out season – a record of its own kind.
He said, "It's always good, but it's not like strikeouts are the key thing you try to do. It just shows you the kind of talent we have here, that we are able to get the strikeout when we need to. The guys we have here have command of three or four pitches, and we throw strikes. That's why we have those strikeouts."
The Brewers seem poised to have 1,400 strike-outs if they maintain the 8.67 strike-outs that they have had so far. The last time Brewers had the most strike-outs was back in 2010 with 1,258.
The team manager Ron Roenicke is obviously quite happy with the performance the pitchers have demonstrated this season.
"I know we've got some big strikeout numbers," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Every day, I look up there and I'll glance around the ballpark and see those blue K's up there and I'm like, 'Man, that's a lot.'"
All said, there is a still a lot to be desired as the season nears the end. The strike-outs have indeed been impressive. But the Brewers would definitely want to be making the most out of them, which did not materialise – much to the team’s chagrin.
The club is standing fourth in the National League Central only a year after their ability to make it into the National League Central Championship Series. Although they could not make it to the World Series, their performance was comparatively better.
This year no such thing happened. Even having more strike-outs could not quite deliver what the club would have anticipated. Nonetheless, it is to be seen in the days to come if the Brewers will make use of the best pitchers they have.
