Milwaukee Brewers’ Carlos Gomez fractures his left clavicle – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers do not seem to have things going their way lately. On Wednesday, the centre-fielder Carlos Gomez ended up fracturing his left clavicle. This happened while he tried to make a diving catch against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While he was successful in executing that and the team also managed to win a 5-2 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Gomez venture produced an end result which will not only cost him but also his team which needs him ever more now.
It obviously brought home anguishing news for the Milwaukee Brewers manager Ro Roenicke who now is unsure if Gomez really needs a shoulder surgery.
One of the players standing to the close proximity of Gomez was Ryan Braun who could clearly hear and see what transpired there once Gomez dived to catch the ball. To him, it was “loud” and “did not sound good.”
Whatever the outcome, like said, it would be team which has to eventually bear the loss of the player of his stature. This might be the last thing the Milwaukee Brewers could have thought at this time.
"People don't realize how valuable he is," Braun said. "He's probably our best defensive player and one of the best defensive players in baseball.”
There is no surprise if the team manager expresses his utter shock for this highly unanticipated set of events."I'm bummed about [Gomez]" Roenicke said. "It's a big loss for us. If he doesn't make that play, we probably don't win the game."
While Nyjer Morgan was quickly dispatched to replace Gomez in the centre-field, it is not yet clear as to who will replace him until the final medical report over the nature of his injury and the subsequent rest that it will require.
For now he needs surgery on his shoulder to determine. Other than that, while the team manager expressed his concern over the incident, it remains a fact that Gomez has hardly got any chance lately to play regularly.
For last two weeks, he had already been 25 at-bats which itself manifests that the player did not have an ample amount of opportunity to practically demonstrate and put into action the talent he possesses.
That he may be consigned to the disabled list, it would be deeply unfortunate to realise that he hardly got a regular chance all this while to play and serve the team to the best of his ability.
The Brewers will be hoping that the injury to Gomez is not as serious as originally thought and that he will return at the earliest. With just about half of the regular season left before the postseason, Milwaukee is keeping their fingers crossed for their
star centre-fielder.
