Milwaukee Brewers’ Corey Hart speaks about Prince Fielder – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers will certainly take their time to reconcile with the fact that one of their strongest and most effective hitters is no longer a part of the team. Prince Fielder, who signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers earlier this week, will
be the most missed player in months to come.
This is what one team-mate, Corey Hart, also acknowledges. For him, Prince has always remained more like family to him than friend. With such close bond that Prince enjoyed with his team-mates, his absence will certainly impact the emotions of players, if
not the composition and performance of the team alone.
“Prince is more like family than a teammate," Hart said. "Anytime you play with a guy, you're around a guy so much and you get close you're happy when guys get their contracts and go where they want to go. I think Prince is pretty happy to go back [to Detroit]."
Making one of the strongest duos of baseball, Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun brought about wonderful victories for the Milwaukee Brewers in the last few years. However, extraordinary was the performance they put in last year.
However, Corey Hart is slightly hesitant when it comes to accepting him as the team leader. While he said Prince was pretty vocal. He drew a comparison between Prince Fielder and Craig Counsell. In Hart’s view, Counsell was stronger in that regard.
"Prince is pretty vocal, but I wouldn't have called him our team leader," Hart said. "I think you actually lose more with losing Craig [Counsell] than you do with losing Prince.”
While there is no doubt of the fact that the players will miss Prince Fielder, there is a sense that they want to move forward. One of the inevitabilities of baseball is that the players ultimately have to leave since they need to choose what suits them
best.
Prince Fielder could have stayed with the Milwaukee Brewers had the deal being discussed borne fruit. While the player and the team initially tried to come to terms when it came to his contract, there was no consensus on it till the end.
It was the Detroit Tigers that eventually won the bid with a nine year deal worth over $200 million. Nonetheless, with Prince Fielder gone, it remains to be seen how the Brewers move past this phase. From what it seems, they will be able to find a way out
to compensate this loss. Although Fielder has left, the team is still fired up and working hard to stay in form.
The club will definitely miss their star slugger, but they remain positive and are looking to be competitive in the upcoming 2012 regular season.
