Milwaukee Brewers’ Doug Melvin honoured with spot in Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ serving general manager Doug Melvin on Tuesday, February 7, was bestowed with an illustrious spot in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. With this place in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, there is indeed recognition of the service
he has rendered over the years.
When the decision as announced on Tuesday, it was something that Melvin expressed actually made him feel humble and honoured.
"It was quite an honor," Melvin said. "I thought if I was recognized, it might be later on, once you're retired. ... But I feel very humbled and honored to be recognized at this point."
Melvin’s career with managerial responsibilities has a history of over two decades now. Under the guardianship of this legend, the teams like the Texas Rangers and now Milwaukee Brewers have flourished enough to be regarded as some of the best in Major League
Baseball.
Always aspiring to be an accomplished pitcher, Doug Melvin nevertheless would traverse a much different path in the later part of his career. It was in 1994 when he was appointed as the general manager of the Texas Rangers where he served until 2001.
Afterwards, he has been serving the Milwaukee Brewers since September 2002, helping the team rise high in the professional circuit.
With the honour by the Canadian Hall of Fame, the Milwaukee Brewers’ vice president and the general manager got rich tribute from the team’s principal owner Mark Attanasio.
“This is a meaningful and richly deserved honor for Doug, and everyone at the Milwaukee Brewers congratulates him on this special occasion,” Attanasio wrote in an email. “His impressive record of bringing two franchises, each its first playoff teams in twenty-five
years, has earned him recognition as one of the great General Managers in Major League Baseball.”
In the Canadian Hall of Fame, Doug Melvin shall join Rheal Cormier and members of Team Canada's gold medal-winning entry to the 2011 Pan Am Games.
The ceremony shall be held on June 23 this year when the general manager and vice president of the Brewers, Doug Melvin travels to Ontario.
