Milwaukee Brewers’ Doug Melvin optimistic about 2012 – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin struck a positive note on Thursday, October 27 about the 2012 regular season prospect, asserting the team was strong and resilient enough to put up the same show exhibited this year.
His remarks came after the Milwaukee Brewers won 96 games in 2011, making it to the National League Championship Series. The fact that the team had 11 playoff games was a major morale booster for the Brewers.
This was after almost three decades (29 years to be exact) when the Brewers made it to the playoffs, establishing evidence of their rapidly improving performance, with the majestically exhilarating improvisation of skills.
The fact that a young closer like John Axford won nearly 50 games emerged to represent the Brewers was a matter of pride. All the same, the scintillating performances of Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, the young catcher Jonathan Lucroy and Corey Hart who featured
in right field all proved to be another addition in an already embellished record of the Brewers.
"These guys all came together," Melvin said. "They didn't know each other coming into Spring Training. We had a new coaching staff, new manager, a lot of new players and they all came in here with the same goal.”
However, he also referred to the areas where the team needs to focus and make improvements. Defence, in his view, is one of them. Expressing his delight with the team’s overall performance, he hopes the Brewers will do better defensively as well.
"Defensively, is the one area that you have to get better at. And if you get better defensively, you're probably not going to be as good offensively,” said the general manager.
Whatever the end result of the post-season games, the Brewers were driven out by the St. Louis Cardinals, the fact remains that the players gave their best throughout the year. Milwaukee had a tremendous regular season and an even more exciting post-season.
Through their hard work and dedicated team performance, the Brewers stunned many in the League with the quality and level of their play. It remains to be seen how they repeat the same performance next year.
