Milwaukee Brewers’ GM denies reports regarding talks with Corey Hart – MLB News

The uncertainty surrounding the Milwaukee Brewers talks with first baseman Corey Hart continues and is likely to continue.
Brewers' general manager Doug Melvin has made it clear that the club has not spoken to Hart yet about the possible contract extension. His statement came in the wake of a report stating that Hart and agent Jeff Berry of CAA Sports were seeking a three-year deal as the club was rather looking for a deal for two years.
"Haven't talked to him," Melvin said. "His agent was here, but we never had a conversation."
Hart remains the longest-tenured player representing his team, the Brewers. It was previously also reported that Hart wanted to extend his contract with the club – something that somehow materialised even after the Trade Deadline early in July.
The 11th round Draft of the club in 2000, Hart has hit over 20 homers in the five of his last six seasons. Not only that, he was also the player who consecutively hit 26 home-runs each in the last three seasons.
It was after the knee injury of first baseman Mat Gamel that Hart was brought in to replace the former. He proved the decision right and went on to man the base like a proficient one.
Its evidence, if there was needed one, came in this year’s overall performance of the player. Smashing 30 home-runs, which remained ninth in the National League, he maintained an impressive .270 average in 149 games with 83 RBIs and 91 runs.
But all this hangs in balance for now as the Brewers are reportedly considering the name of prospect Hunter Morris for manning first base. The MVP of the Double-A Southern League this year, Morris – in 136 games, has had a.303 batting average with 28 homers and 113 RBIs.
Part of the uncertainty lay in the statement of the GM as well when he was specifically asked about the matter and the stay at Indian Wells, California.
He said, "It was quiet. More administrative things, talked to some clubs, talked to a few agents here, but nothing significant. [The Meetings were] just sort of the first step in the offseason that you normally go through. The next step is to take the information back; we've got scouts meetings next week, our pro scouts are all coming in for three days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and we'll just go over rosters and free-agent lists.”
The decision pertaining to contract extension, Hart hopes will come sooner than later.
