Milwaukee Brewers Jonathan Lucroy and Shaun Marcum set to rejoin team after injuries – MLB News
While challenges abound for the Milwaukee Brewers, the manager on Monday, July 23, hopes that the catcher Jonathan Lucroy will rejoin the team by Thursday when the Brewers will take on the Washington Nationals.
Lucroy’s absence has had its impact on the team’s overall performance. It was on May 28 when he was sent to the 15-day disabled list after he had fracture fifth metacarpal in his right hand. Since then, he has not been able to show up in any game.
For now, he is engaged in rehab assignments. He will have his games on Tuesday and Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville which will further make it clear for the team whether or not he has regained his form and fitness.
The rehab assignment he has so far had brings to fore the record of 4-for-12. He has hit two RBIs and a double. However, the rehab assignment, it goes without saying, is essentially different from fiercely competitive world of Major League Baseball.
So the team is taking precautionary measures. The team manager on Monday said that he has spoken to Lucroy, and has told him that the team will activate him whenever the player himself thought he is productive enough.
“I still told him that I want him, when he comes back, to feel that he is going to be productive when he steps in the batter's box,” Roenicke said. “And as long as he feels like he's productive doing that, we can activate him.”
On the other hand, the Brewers are considering bringing Shaun Marcum, the right hander by Tuesday after the player’s going into disabled list on June 23.
Ron Roenicke sees it as a big day for Marcum.
“Big day for Shaun tomorrow,” Roenicke said. “That'll be good to see where he is. He's felt really good playing catch, and it'll be nice to get him back on the mound.”
As the two shall be formally the part of Brewers soon, it is to be seen whether they will be able to give their best after the stint in the disabled list due to their respective injuries.
