Milwaukee Brewers Jonathan Lucroy back after a long stint on disabled list – MLB News
As challenges continue to pile up for the Milwaukee Brewers, the team on Thursday – July 26, activated the catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
Lucroy is now back after having spent almost two months on the disabled list.
All this while, the Brewers have only seen the kind of decline they were not expecting as far as their performance in this season is concerned. Whatever the reasons are, the team currently is 13 ½ games away from the first spot in the National League Central.
That is a huge gap to fill in the second half of the season given the fact that other teams have become increasingly fiercely competitive lately. Add to it the fact that the Brewers might as well lose their starter Zack Greinke as the Trade Deadline nears.
Lucroy comes back at a time when the Brewers need immense power in both offence and defence to stage their way back into the National League Central top three. Two months absence has certainly been a big miss for him as he had ended up breaking a bone in his right hand.
But Lucroy is filled with optimism. "I feel like I missed out on a lot, I do feel that way," Lucroy said. "I don't think I'm too late, because obviously with baseball, you don't know what can happen. I'm forever optimistic and I always believe in a positive outcome. That's what I'm going to believe and think."
With Lucroy’s return, the team had to decide between Martin Maldonado and George Kottaras – who is a senior player compared to Maldonado. The final decision, nonetheless, went to Maldonado’s favour.
"Really difficult on me and the rest of the staff making the decision with George -- George is a Major League catcher," Roenicke said. "He's certainly as good or better than a lot of backup catchers in the big leagues."
Lucroy, on the other hand, will see a new phase in the team now with the attempts to put things in order now. For the team to succeed, a lot of things need to be revisited and rightly placed to revive chances of the Brewers success.
