Milwaukee Brewers’ Juan Perez is back - MLB News

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday, March 27, that their reliever Juan Perez is back --- two weeks after he had a collapsed lung. The closer had his short stay in the hospital and was subsequently discharged, allowing him to get on the mound.
The team manager, Ron Roenicke, seemed satisfied with his post injury workout this week. "He threw a bullpen [Monday] -- it went real well, and he's accelerating fast," manager Ron Roenicke said. "He had a smile on his face and he felt good."
Perez caught the attention of the Milwaukee Brewers after he had good seasons, playing with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies. The 33 year old player had an ERA of 4.79 in the 32 appearances he had a reliever.
He had a record of 1-1 as a left-handed reliever. The Brewers invited him as non-roster player to the Spring Training. Since his arrival here, his performance has remained good enough to win him a space in the bullpen.
Of the appearances he has made here in the Spring Training as part of the Brewers, he has so far not allowed any run in just over three innings, having had two strikeouts coupled with two hits.
The stats so far go to his favour. The injury that resulted in his being away from the game for two weeks will have no adverse impact if he pitches well on Thursday when he will be having another throwing session.
That Thursday game, to a great extent, will determine if he will be able to make his way into the 25-man roster Opening Day squad; something that a great number of players eagerly await.
"I think he probably will be ready [to pitch in a game before the Brewers break camp], but I don't know that he will. We're OK with where he is in his status, because he's on a Minor League deal," Roenicke said.
For a reliever like him, playing in the regular season with the Brewers will be a tremendous opportunity to exhibit the class he has especially the experience he has had playing with the Major League Baseball teams.
