Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun stays away from Fanfest – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ COO Rick Schlesinger stated on Sunday, January 29, that the decision to ask Ryan Braun to be away from Fanfest is for the betterment of the player himself. His statement was in response to questions pertaining to the absence of the
accomplished outfielder from Fanfest.
With the varying opinions both in favour of his being around or not being there, have to do with the pending decision on the possible suspension of Ryan Braun. Last year, the player had failed to clear a drug test.
"I've been paying a lot of attention to talk radio and the blogs, and I know a lot of different people have a lot of different opinions [about Braun skipping the fan event]," Schlesinger said. "But I think the average fan understands that if it were up to
him, Ryan would love to be here. He really is a fan guy. He likes interacting with the fans.”
While Schlesinger expressed that Ryan Braun will want to be here, his emphasis was that the player understood the advice he got. Dealing with the situation, thus, required staying away from Fanfest.
"But I think you have to understand the situation he's in. He has to listen to his advisers saying what's best for him. Right now, the best thing is to deal with this situation.”
Ryan Braun’s appeal to the three-person jury has yet to announce a verdict. He will be the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to successfully appeal. Even though Ryan Braun himself vehemently denied to have ever taken any performance-enhancing
drugs, he finds himself embroiled in the controversy for a while now.
It was in this light that the player missed Fanfest. What is also unclear so far is the possible inclusion of the player in Spring Training if the decision on the appeal is not made.
Braun, it remains beyond any shadow of a doubt, is the backbone of the Brewers’ offence. His absence from the upcoming season shall be consequential for the team that aspires to be on top during the upcoming 2012 MLB regular season.
