Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun wins appeal – MLB News
The inevitable and unexpected has happened as the Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Ryan Braun has reportedly won the appeal against the suspected violation of Major League Baseball's Drug Treatment and Prevention Program.
The player who was facing 50-game suspension due to this allegedly failed drug test has become the first player in the history of MLB to successfully appeal a case. The appeal was in front of a three-person panel whose decision went in Braun’s favour with
2-1.
The result of the decision to be made public is a step that is being considered unusual at this point in time.
It was in late December last year that the news popped up and made rounds all around about the failed drug test. Soon enough it had become high profile case due largely to the prominent name of Ryan Braun in it.
While he faced suspension for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs, the player and the team decided to file an appeal. Whether or not it was to be accepted at the end is something that remained uncertain. Given the fact that no player has ever had
success in getting a decision turned down.
However, Braun on Thursday, after hearing the report, expressed satisfaction with it, saying truth is in his side.
"We were able to get through this, because I am innocent and the truth is on our side," Braun said in a statement. "We provided complete cooperation throughout, despite the highly unusual circumstances. I have been an open book, willing to share details
from every aspect of my life as part of this investigation, because I have nothing to hide. I have passed over 25 drug tests in my career, including at least three in the past year."
While a lot will be written about the decision in the days to come, what is now in the Brewers’ favour is the fact that he no longer has to undergo the 50-game suspension and be active part of the team in the season, lending strength to a team that has all
the capacity to win any big title.
