Milwaukee Brewers’ Shaun Marcum hopes to be back in the roster soon – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are expecting a sooner than later return of the pitcher Shaun Marcum in the roster as the competition stiffens in the league. Shaun Marcum has recently been going through rehabilitation – the second one coming on Wednesday when he faced the Beloit Snappers.
The second start might have been somewhat troubling for the starter since he last pitched in June. But prior to Wednesday’s outing, Marcum had made a good start with the Class A Timer Rattlers, giving up only a run in 36 pitches that he tossed, 28 of which were for strikes.
Nonetheless, all is set for Marcum to finally get back into the big games. Wednesday’s encounter wherein he had pitched a total of 59 pitches, would well be put into backburner with another good rehabilitation start.
He had given up a total of three runs – two of which were earned runs, giving up four hits, and two strikeouts.
However, Marcum does not make any secret of the displeasure and frustration that he finds in rehabilitation. But he will have to undergo this so as to be able to make regular starts for the Brewers in the days to come.
Caution is what the Brewers, and the starter himself, are exercising at the moment to avoid any risk that could put things in peril as far as the starter’s return is concerned.
"It's been definitely frustrating, especially when you have an MRI that doesn't show any damage," said Marcum. "It was just a matter of trying to get the soreness out of there. I finally got it calm and settled down, and haven't had any soreness for a while now. We were being cautious with it as well.”
In Marcum’s absence, the team has heavily relied on the young starter Mike Fiers. Fiers, as could be seen, has been faring well all this while even though it initially seemed difficult that he would be able to fill the space left by Marcum.
All said, the first and foremost priority for Marcum is the earliest return in the team. If everything goes as has been envisaged, he will soon be on the mound in the Majors.
On the other hand, Marcum’s contract is also nearing end, which will then raise the question of which team shall he represent once the contract ends. For him, nonetheless, it is Brewers’ uniform that is the first priority.
"If I had the opportunity [to re-sign with Milwaukee] I'd love to," Marcum said. "That's definitely a possibility. It's a great organization. Most of the guys are going to be back next year. It's a good group. They still have a chance to do some things in Milwaukee. It's pretty special."
Be that as it may, everything shall be clear soon as far his return, and the contract is concerned.
