Milwaukee Brewers’ Taylor Green looking forward to a stronger offensive show – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' first baseman Taylor Green has admitted he was not completely satisfied with the performance he exhibited in Major League Baseball 2012. Being a two-time Brewers' Minor League Player of the Year, he played 58 games this season and ended up having .184 average.
"Obviously I'm not too happy with [2012] from an offensive standpoint," Green said. "I'm just trying to learn, and I'm going to make some adjustments to my swing. When you're not in an everyday groove, you have to make some adjustments to have success."
Offensively, from how he has fared in the Minor League, the player seems capable of showing extraordinary feats. However, much as his appearance in 2012 in the MLB was not as impressive, it is also a fact that he rarely got the opportunity to find a toehold in the team.
One of the reasons for his inability to consistently perform is the fact that he has got gigantic competitors in the positions that he would like to be placed in. Take for example first base which is retained by Corey Hart.
Second base goes to Rickie Weeks and third to Aramis Ramirez. With the players of their calibre occupying the respective positions, Green has certainly got numerous challenges to grapple with.
Secondly, he had to shuttle between Triple-A Nashville and Milwaukee Brewers. With two different formats of the game, with concomitantly varying challenges, adaptability will certainly take a while.
With limited plate appearances, things might be strenuous and tough, but even in the limited chances he sees an opportunity.
"That's how I'm going to break in, I feel," Green said. "Not the easiest way to do it, but lots of other people have done it. I just need to do it. I've always been pretty good at making adjustments over the winter to come back better for the next year."
In 77 games at Nashville, the player retained a good .273 average with 29 RBIs and seven homers. That performance is what the Brewers would like to see in him once he gets enlisted for the roster, rising to the expectations of the club.
