Milwaukee Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo spared for Game 7 of NLCS – MLB Playoffs
The Milwaukee Brewers decided on Sunday, October, 16 that they would not use Yovani Gallardo as the starter for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. While Shaun Marcum has been slated to be the starter, the team wants to focus on hitting this
time.
Part of the reason why the Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke is not using Gallardo is to keep him all ready for Game 7. Considering the fact that Gallardo is being kept for the other game shows that the Brewers want to go for an entirely new strategy for Sunday’s
crucial Game 6.
"No, 'Yo' is not an option," Roenicke said. "We have to win tomorrow and the next day. I don't know why I would bring back Yo to win tomorrow when it would hurt us then for the next day and not being able to win."
What Marcum does on Sunday will determine the course of the ongoing series. If he prevails over the St. Louis Cardinals’ offence, it will be one of the biggest wins for him in his career. That alone will explain the decision to keep Gallardo away for the
game.
The Brewers, if one were to look at the statistics, have heavily relied on the hitting throughout the whole series. That is what they intend to put to use in Sunday’s game as well. Whether it works out or not is something that remains to be seen.
Scoring early, nonetheless, is important. "I think that's always important for our team," manager Ron Roenicke said of scoring early. "I think when we're really good, we put a lot of pressure on them early."
It is interesting to recall that the Brewers were the favourites throughout the regular season with their runs. They maintained a 65-28 record when it came to scoring first and have so far won two of the three games in the post-season when they batted first.
With Gallardo spared for Game 7, if the Brewers qualify, it is now on Marcum to hold off the Cardinals’ offence. The Brewers will be looking to Marcum to lead them in the must win Game 6.
