Milwaukee Brewers’ Zack Greinke focused on Spring Training
Zack Greinke, who has recently moved to the Milwaukee Brewers on a trade deal with Kansas City Royals, is focused on pitching at the best possible level.
The former Cy Young award winner is preparing for spring training in Phoenix, Arizona and he’s committed to put up a good preparation for the coming season. The player recently had a chance to talk about his weekly routine at spring training.
The pitcher avoids joint players’ gatherings in the morning around the breakfast table. Apart from Tuesday’s small meeting, the pitcher only allows media to interview him after he’s done with pitching practice.
"I come to the park and want to get focused on my next start, and random people come and waste my time talking," Greinke said.
By picking and choosing his interviews, "it gets rid of all the 'eyewash' comments from reporters and lets you focus on what needs to be focused on."
The reclusive star believes a lot of energy is wasted on talking and socially interactive activities. The 27-year old who has battled depression and
social anxiety disorder says he has a tough time with the medicine as he’s altered his prescription twice, including last year when he posted an earning runs average of 4.17.
"It's all kind of crazy, because it makes me tired to take it, but if I don't take it, I get really worked up," Greinke said. "The higher the dosage, the more tired I get, so I sort of get used to it. Nothing's perfect."
The new Brewers ace has lost focus in the past due to the medication to the point where he nearly quit the game for good five seasons ago. But he believes the environment helps, along with the team players, who have been kind to him since he made his way
to camp.
"I like a lot of the guys," he said. "I haven't seen one who's annoying yet to me. They've all been good. The [pitching] staff seems to have a lot of talent on it. It's pretty cool."
