Milwaukee Brewers’ Zack Greinke named to pitch against St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of NLCS
The Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, October 13 named 27-year-old Zack Greinke to start Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. The starting pitcher has been under intense pressure in the post-season games so far.
Featuring in the two games, he has had a whopping 8.18 ERA, allowing no less than 10 runs and 16 hits. Nonetheless, owing to his unusually good performance throughout the regular season and combining experience, he is apparently unfazed.
The NLCS game, for him, is yet another game. There is an understandably strong reason for it. The team has an amalgamation of some of the biggest and effective hitters in the offence to take pride in.
That adds to his confidence. Greinke believes that be it regular season games or the post-season, he is ready to pitch.
"In all honesty, it's just another game, kind of," Greinke said. "I thought it might be a lot different, but it's really just a normal game, and you just get as ready as you can and do what you can."
Milwaukee Brewers will fight a tough battle on Thursday to win the game to level the best-of-seven game series where the St. Louis Cardinals so far have a 2-1 lead. To reverse that, Greinke’s contribution will be key.
Provided the Brewers overwhelm the St. Louis Cardinals and tie the series, Greinke will be all set and his morale lifted to pitch with more confidence and prevail over the Cardinals’ offence in Game 5.
"They are all important," Greinke said. "If it's 3-1 it's important, if it's 2-2 it's important, if we were up 3-1 it could be just as important."
The biggest challenge, however, will be the home ground whose advantage is not available to Greinke here. He is going to pitch Game 5 at St. Louis, something that he has to keep in his mind.
Nonetheless, the fact that the team has relied on him to pitch makes him all the more confident to take on the Cardinals. It will be interesting to see what impact he has in Game 5 as the Brewers will be looking for a brilliant pitching performance from
him.
