Milwaukee Brewers add five more to 40-man roster – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers added Scooter Gennett to 40-man roster on Tuesday, November 20, to protect him from being selected in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. Along with Gennett, four other prospects were added to the 40-man roster. With the inclusion of these players, the Brewers' roster now stands at 39. s
Through the Rule 5 process, players first signed at age 18 must be added to 40-man rosters within five years or they become eligible to be drafted by other organiations. Clubs pay $50,000 to select a player in the Rule 5 Draft, to be held on December 6 at the conclusion of the Winter Meetings in Nashville.
The deadline to protect the players was Tuesday at 10:59 p.m. CT.
The 22-year old player is said to be the club’s second baseman of the future. Ranked Number 6 prospect by the MLB.com. He was the 16th-round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft has hit .293 with five home-runs, 30 doubles, 11 steals and 44 RBIs at Double-A Huntsville the past season.
To his credit, he has also represented the Brewers in All-Star Futures Game. His U.S. squad actually trounced the World team by 17-5.
That fills him with pride and happiness.
"Any time you get to face guys like that and put the ball in play and make something happen, you've got to be proud of yourself," Gennett said. "I'm pretty happy. It was a great experience. I've been able to meet some guys that I've heard a lot about, and they're all professionals. They go about their business the right way."
His talent does not go unnoticed and unacknowledged. An illustrious career to be built from here onward, Gennett indeed has a long way to go.
He was brought from Minor League camp to most probably make appearance in Spring Training. Chances are that he play some of the Cactus League games. In nine games recently, he hit .450, having finished 9-for-20.
Other four players who have made it to 40-man roster were their Minor League pitcher of the year, outfielder Josh Prince, Nick Bucci and outfielder Khris Davis.
