Milwaukee Brewers and Prince Fielder focus on Game 5 for now – MLB Playoffs
The Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke expects that the contract with Prince Fielder may get extended after Friday’s Game 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Prince Fielder whose future hinges upon pending free agency was not available for comments.
For Fielder, as well as the Brewers, the pressing issue is indeed the decisive game of the National League Division Series. The Brewers have undeniably come a long way to qualify for the playoffs.
But the debate that continues to rage and lingers on, pertains to the future of Fielder’s contract extension. If the team wins Friday’s game, which it intends to achieve at all cost, Prince Fielder may well remain the part of team until the NL Championship
Series does not come to an end.
Roenicke insists it is Game 5 that holds importance, not the future – for now.
"I think he's kind of beyond that a little bit," manager Ron Roenicke said. "I think the last game of the [regular] season here was a little bit emotional for him. But right now, he is so focused on what we need to do and trying to win this game.”
Even though Fielder did not utter a single word about the issue, the most probable point is that he too has his eyes on the game, rather than the endless debate of the future contract. Previously, he had spoken at length about the possible contractual deal
and the probability of playing the last season with the Brewers.
"As a player, it's tough hearing things like that, questioning about a contract or whether you're going to come back or not," Game 5 starter Yovani Gallardo said. "He goes out there and plays.”
Although the speculations about the future are rife, the Brewers will definitely try to strengthen their stranglehold at home ground and win the decisive game. Both teams will be looking to put in a strong performance and take a victory to advance to the
National League Championship Series and move one step closer to the World Series.
For the Brewers the future, for now, is something that will be dealt in the ‘future’.
