Milwaukee Brewers beat Houston Astros 4-0 as bad luck continues at Minute Maid Park – MLB Update

The Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Houston Astros 4-0 as Shaun Marcum threw seven spotless-innings for just one hit at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on Sunday, September 4.
Marcum threw 99 pitches in his spell and managed 65 strikes, allowing just one walk in this stretch. He struck-out eight batters to take his strike-out tally to 143 for the season. He exhibited his entire arsenal to silence the Astros to yet another defeat
at their home ground. Marcum’s win-loss record for the season now stands concrete at 12-5.
Bad luck for the Astros continued at Minute Maid Park as the hosts lost their 45th game at this ballpark this season with just 26 wins so far to counter the losses. The Astros are now just seven losses away from 100 this season.
The Brewers, on the contrary, went a step closer in cementing their place for the postseason as division leaders of the National League Central with their only competition coming from the St. Louis Cardinals who are 8.5 games behind them.
"There are times you go out there and get a bunch and times you don't get any," Marcum said. "That's baseball. Personally, I like pitching in tighter games.”
Marcum indicated that this game was not as tough as games in MLB are expected to be but nonetheless, it is the result which matters in the end. Manager Ron Roenicke was all praise for the starting pitcher, saying that Marcum has been brilliant all season
and that he would be an asset for the team when they begin their hunt for a World Series spot next month.
Ryan Braun was a sensation on the plate once again as he connected three times to improve his batting average to .335 for the season. Braun impressed from the onset as he unleashed a gigantic home-run towards left field to set the tone for the Brewers. Jonathan
Lucroy replicated Braun’s feat in the second inning to double the lead before Marcum added a run to his laurels for the night in the fifth inning. Braun then crafted an RBI in the seventh inning, his third of the game, allowing Jerry Hairston Jr. to complete
the fourth run for Milwaukee.
Wandy Rodriguez was the unlucky pitcher for the Astros as he gave away three runs in six innings for his tenth loss of the season with as many wins to his credit thus far.
The Brewers completed a three-game sweep of the Astros to improve their record on the road to 34-38. Milwaukee has rejuvenated brilliantly after the mid-season break and is now 84-57 for the season. A spree of wins might give them the required impetus to
boost their confidence for the playoffs.
