Milwaukee Brewers call up Jim Henderson from Minor Leagues – MLB News
The new Milwaukee Brewers' pitcher, Jim Henderson, on Thursday, July 26 expressed his excitement on being called for the Major Leagues. Henderson, who was called from Triple-A Nashville, has spent 10 seasons in Minor Leagues.
"I'm just thrilled that it did happen," Henderson said. "Last night, I really just didn't know what to do -- pack, call people. Just a bit of shock and just awe at the situation."
Henderson, nonetheless, has been called up at a time when the things are not going particularly right for the Brewers. The bullpen has recently seen a dramatic slump, causing concern for the Brewers. While the team has yet to decide who will be the closer for rest of the season, Henderson’s presence in the bullpen can bring some relief.
He has a record of 15 saves with 1.69 ERA so far in his 35 appearances. For any Minor Leaguer, that is a good enough record to attract attention. But the unprecedented challenges ahead need to be tackled equally effectively.
Having spent 10 seasons in the Minor Leagues is considered an invaluable experience. He can employ that experience here in the Major Leagues to empower the team’s bullpen which is struggling a great deal lately.
Known for a good variety in his throwing, Henderson will be a great asset for the Brewers bullpen, enabling them to face the rivals with ever more confidence now.
What kind of a role he shall get in the bullpen has not been decided yet. Relatively young in the Major Leagues, Henderson will certainly be under the scrutiny for now before being a permanent part of the bullpen.
Nonetheless, he is ready to execute whatever is assigned to him. Be it long relief or short relief, Henderson has the capability to strengthen the defence.
"I'm just going to come in and do my job, whatever they want me to do," Henderson said. "I've done long relief, I've done short relief. I'll just do whatever they want right now."
Henderson shall have first game on Thursday. How well he performs will also be a crucial factor in his regular appearances for the team in the future.
