Milwaukee Brewers confident despite Ryan Braun's suspension worries – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin said on Wednesday, December 14, that the club will have no major shift in the strategy whatever the end result of Ryan Braun’s failed test result and subsequent appeal.
The positive drug test result has put the next season for Ryan Braun in jeopardy given the 50-game suspension he will inevitably face if the appeal is rejected. Having performed outstandingly well in the past season, the Milwaukee Brewers were expected to
be in trouble if Ryan Braun could not successfully go through it.
Nonetheless, Doug Melvin, known for his composure and maintains that while the team can comfortably move forward, without any major alteration in the strategy in the case of Ryan Braun’s suspension.
"We're moving forward, counting on Ryan being in the lineup," Melvin said Wednesday. "We're just doing business as normal.”
What, however, adds to the trouble, no matter how hard the Milwaukee Brewers argue to the contrary, is the free-agent slugger Prince Fielder. Having been a strong pair with Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder always lent credible and sustainable support to the Brewers
through tough times.
It was this pair that enabled the Brewers to make it to the playoffs, cruising past some of the best teams in the league. Such a strong presence they had that the rival teams would have to especially devise the strategy to overcome them.
It is this aspect of these players that the newly inducted Aramis Ramirez has in the back of his mind, saying that while the club shall miss them, it is runs that the team would need as well as the pitching.
"You're going to miss those guys if Ryan Braun is suspended, but I think you win with pitching and the pitching is there," Ramirez said. "Of course, you need to score runs, but the key to winning is pitching."
While the Brewers may be faced with numerous challenges if the two players do not have to play in the upcoming season, from what Doug Melvin said, the club is erecting all possible defences to fight the rival teams the way did in 2011 with confidence.
