Milwaukee Brewers defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 11-8 – MLB Recap
National League Central franchise Milwaukee Brewers crushed their league rivals Arizona Diamondbacks 11-8 in their Cactus League game Wednesday, March 9 at Salt River Fields in Arizona.
The veteran out-fielder Jeremy Reed’s three runs and centre-fielder Carlos Gomez’s two runs put the Brewers in a winning position.
It was the first of two scheduled games between the Clubs this spring. The two teams will also meet on Saturday in Maryvale. The D-backs were victorious in both of their games against the Brewers last spring.
At bat, Gomez hammered two hits to earn two runs in four at-bats while Reed was at his best with three runs on three hits in three innings. Caleb Gindl, first baseman Erick Almonte, George Kottaras, Brandon Boggs and Wolf posted one run each to move the
table to 11 runs, but all of these took more than one inning to score a single. However, Milwaukee’s 11 runs in 42 combined at-bats were enough to grab another victory.
Willie Bloomquist playing at second base scored one run in four at-bats. However, third baseman Geoff Blum succeeded in making two important runs including one RBI in two at-bats. Two batters could not make any impression on the table, Miguel Montero and
Chris Owings, both failed to score in four and three innings respectively. Arizona made eight runs in combined 37 at-bats.
Arizona’s Ian Kennedy was the most expensive pitcher as he consumed five runs on eight hits to grab two strike-outs in three innings. He was scoreless in three innings against San Diego Padres on Friday where he collected four strike-outs with 3.60 ERA.
The 38-year-old left-handed pitcher allowed two runs on two hits while managed only one strike-out. Despite allowing eleven runs, Padres provide only one home-run that was posted by Milwaukee’s first baseman Erick Almonte to Yonata Ortega who allowed three
hits in one inning.
The pitching was not impressive from the Brewers’ side, as veteran Randy Wolf could not acquire a single strike-out until he received five runs on three hits including one home-run in two innings. He was homered by D-backs’ centre-fielder Collin Cowgill
who stole two runs on one hit including four RBIs. He was accompanied by wily Peralta with two runs on three hits including one home-run in two innings.
Milwaukee will play their next game against Colorado Rockies Thursday, March 10. The club has scheduled Shuan Marcum to face off Esmil Rogers of the Rockies. The D-backs will land against Chicago White Sox with probable pitcher Armando Galarraga.
It will be interesting to see how the Brewers can carry their winning momentum and growing confidence into their next match-up.
