Milwaukee Brewers defeat Chicago Cubs 12-5 – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Carlos Silva and third baseman Aramis Ramirez had an argument after 12-5 defeat against Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, March 2 at Maryvale Baseball Park in Arizona.
The arguments started when Silva entered the bunker and expressed his anger due to errors at defence without pinpointing to anyone, but Ramirez who had committed a mistake in the field did not like his attitude and replied harshly to Silva. The issue was
settled when the coach escorted Silva out of the camp.
Silva expressed ferocity because he made three errors in the game against Milwaukee that led him to six runs in first innings. Short-stop Starlin Castro also committed an error but tried to stay away from discussions.
The 31-year-old right-handed starting pitcher Silva threw 40 pitches but failed to make any impression. Brewers’ dominance disappointed him, according to Cubs’ manager Mike Quade, who confirmed arbitration between the players.
“You have two (ticked) off people,” Quade said. “It was a brutal inning. There was plenty of blame to go around. Maybe it is something we need. That just tells you how poor our defense has been (14 in four games), although we have made our share of pitching
mistakes, too.”
Milwaukee won the game due to Casey McGehee’s extra ordinary performance that made three hits, two of which lead to home-runs. Milwaukee earned their victory when McGehee scored four runs he batted in.
McGehee stated he heard the voices but was not sure about their exact location and nature. He said it took him some time to realise the incident was taking place in the camp. McGehee was the cause of Silva’s anger as he hammered two homers one each in the
first and second innings.
Though McGehee was happy on his performance, he still made an ambition to improve in the coming games.
“I feel pretty good, but there still is stuff I need to work on,” said McGehee, who hit .285 with 23 homers and 104 RBIs last season. “To have a day like this at the beginning of the spring is not really that realistic because guys are working on pitches
and they don’t want to be walking guys.”
Carlos Silva became part of the Cubs’ line-up on December 2009 when the club acquired him in place of out-fielder Milton Bradley along with $9-million. Silva provided hype to his career and proved him the most dominant pitcher for the Cubs in 2010. He broke
the clubs 43-year-old record of 8-0 starts when he set a 10-4 record with 3.76 ERA in 2010.
Carlos made his debut with Philadelphia Phillies in 2002 but gained fame when the Minnesota Twins allowed him a space in their line-up in 2004. He had changed four teams since his debut including two seasons with the Seattle Mariners. However, he has posted
70-70 with 4.68 ERA and 554 strike-outs.
The team has gone through such incidents before this as one was reported last year in June between pitcher Carlos Zambrano and first baseman Derrel Lee. Management is looking seriously to eradicate these types of incidents.
