Milwaukee Brewers defeat Chicago Cubs 3-2 to complete series sweep – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers continued to impress at the top of the National League Central division as they completed a series sweep over the Chicago Cubs after a 3-2 win at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sunday, August 28.
The Brewers are now 10.5 games ahead of second-placed St. Louis Cardinals and have now certainly booked their tickets for the playoffs after what has been one of the most scintillating comebacks in Major League Baseball this season. This win gave the Brewers
their 50th win at home this season and their win-loss tally for the season now stands resolute at 81-54.
Zack Greinke impressed with his start for Milwaukee as he pitched into the eighth inning and restricted the Cubs to just one run in the stretch. He threw 113 pitches over 7.2 innings and struck-out seven batters amid 74 strikes. Greinke’s hard work earned
him his 13th win of the season with just five losses against his name this season.
Casey Coleman has had an ordinary season with the Cubs and this game was no exception. Coleman leaked a run too-much in his seven innings from the mound to lose his seventh start this season. The Brewers unglued him for six hits and three runs to see his
earned-run average soar up to 7.14 for the season. Coleman has just two wins to his credit thus far in the season and it will be interesting to see if he earns another start this season.
Corey Hart was the most distinguished batter for the Brewers as he ended up scoring two of the total three runs. Hart added the first run for Milwaukee in the first inning helped by Ryan Braun’s RBI effort towards right field.
Hart went one step ahead in the fifth inning when he smashed Coleman for a gigantic 397-feet two-run home-run towards the favoured left field which allowed Greinke to complete his run in what turned out to be a fruitful game for the right-handed starting
pitcher.
The Cubs showed signs of revival deep in the game with two quick-runs in the eighth and the ninth inning but John Axford was vigilant and saved his 40th game of the season to lead the National League in saves.
