Milwaukee Brewers defeat Houston Astros 4-0 – MLB Update
Randy Wolf tossed some of the most effective innings on Friday, July 29 to help the Milwaukee Brewers defeat Houston Astros 4-0 at Miller Park.
The win would not have come without the strong innings that Wolf threw. Having combined experience and talent, the Milwaukee starter has so far played 22 games in this season, having won seven of them.
With a 3.44 ERA and 1.33 WHIP to his credit and having pitched 138.2 innings this season, the Brewers’ starter pitched an equally strong spell of throws to win his team their fourth consecutive victory.
"It's nice to have a win next to your name after you pitch," said Wolf, who won for the first time in six starts. "One thing I can't lose sight of is just going out there and doing the best I can.”
Wolf began the game with his scoreless first inning, tossing pitches that at best confused the Astros’ offence with variation in the speed. Jordan Lyles did not prove an easy rival on Friday either.
Lyles threw equally strong innings till the fifth when the Brewers’ hitters found the first opportunity to put an end to the run drought. Casey McGehee was the first one to open the account for the Brewers’ offence.
McGehee hit and reached the infield to score followed by another RBI single of George Kottaras that doubled the lead for the Brewers. The 4-hit and two-run fifth inning was a harbinger of a great day to come for the Brewers.
While Wolf was admittedly the unrivalled pitcher out there to maintain the Brewers’ lead, Enerio Del Rosario replaced Lyles. He could not stop the Brewers’ offence to once again open their bats.
This time it was Corey Hart’s awe-inspiring two-run homer that gave the Brewers a comfortable 4-0 lead in the game, giving them a definite advantage in the game.
Despite Wolf’s shut-out innings, the team manager had a different view. "We scored a little more runs for him today," Milwaukee’s manager Ron Roenicke said. "I actually didn't think he threw the ball today as well as he did his last outing.”
Kameron Loe came in as the closer in the ninth inning, with the stakes high for the Brewers and he succeeded in containing the Houston hitters. He threw a shut-out ninth to earn a much needed win for the Brewers over the Astros 4-0.
The Brewers put in a tremendous performance as they managed to restrict the Astros’ offence from scoring any runs. Houston will be looking to improve their performance before their next match-up.
