Milwaukee Brewers defeat Houston Astros 8-1 – MLB Update
Yovani Gallardo tossed eight effective innings on Friday, August 5 to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Houston Astros 8-1 at Minute Maid Park.
Gallardo’s wonderful pitching spell also gave the Brewers a favourable start in the three-game series.
This was, much to the amusement of the Brewers, the ninth win in the last ten games they have played. A lead that the team will want to maintain and thus further improve upon.
"We're in a place where we're playing the type of ball I know we can play and we're consistently doing it," Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said. "That's what we've been trying to get to."
For the team manager, Friday’s game underscored the importance of playing with the same zeal. "Overall, this is the type of game we needed today, to get (Tim) Dillard in there, to get Counsell a hit, to have. You have a nice game and to continue to swing
the bat well," Roenicke said.
However, for the Astros, it was another setback owing to the big margin with which they lost the game. "You know, we are going to talk about some things and see if that is the route we need to go as far as getting things ironed out," Astros’ manager Brad
Mills said.
Ryan Braun provided a great start to the Brewers as J. A. Happ came to pitch for the Astros. Braun snapped in a single to give an early lead to the Milwaukee Brewers, as Happ could not contain Casey McGehee from driving in a two-run homer that tripled the
lead for the Brewers.
The 3-hit three-run first inning was an auspicious start for the Yovani Gallardo whose sole aim then was to maintain the lead and take it forward. Gallardo was undeniably successful in this endeavour as the Brewers’ offence moved ahead with an early 3-0
lead.
Humberto Quintero was the only Astros’ hitter to score a run in the second inning against Gallardo. After that, Gallardo was simply beyond the Astros’ hitters who found it next to impossible to play his fastballs.
The third inning brought another nightmare for the Houston starter J. A. Happ who was first hit by Yuniesky Betancourt and then immediately by Felipe Lopez coupled with an RBI single that Jonathan Lucroy scored, making it 6-1 for the Brewers in the 4-hit
three-run third inning.
That prompted a change in the Houston bull-pen but Corey Hart scored a single in the sixth to take the lead to 7-1 while Gallardo kept pitching unplayable innings to maintain the lead. As Gallardo pitched the eighth inning as shut-out, Jonathan Lucroy snapped
a single in the ninth, making it 8-1 for the Brewers.
Tim Dillard came as a closer to wrap up the game with 8-1 score for the Brewers, giving the team a wonderful 1-0 start in the three-game series.
