Milwaukee Brewers defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 in series opener – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers gave a forceful reply as they crushed the strong batting line of Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 in the first outing of the four-game series at Miler Park in Milwaukee on Monday, August 15.
Brewers’ starter Randy Wolf played an excellent game with the ball as he struck-out five batters in his eight innings game. Wolf put in a brilliant display of pitching against the Dodgers. Although he allowed six hits and five walks, but he did not let the
Dodgers turn the base runners into a score. He threw 61 strikes of his 101 pitches to get his tenth win of the season. It was his fourth straight win and it improved his record to 10-8 with 3.30 ERA in 25 starts.
"If we're pitching well, we're scoring just enough to win, if we happen to not pitch that well, we're scoring a lot of runs. That's what good teams do," Wolf said. "This is the team we've been waiting to have now for a good part of the first half. Lately
we've been playing the kind of games we know we can."
John Axford provided a perfect back, throwing one-hitter ninth inning to snatch his 35th and helped the club to grab their 71st win of the season.
The Brewers’ defense struggled against Ted Lilly throughout the game, but the three hits proved vital for the club. Ryan Braun launched a magnificent 396-feet long one-run homer in the fourth inning to shatter the scoreless tie.
After this hit, Lilly bounced back and held the Brewers’ batting to this score until the end of his seven innings. He struck-out six batters and walked only two, but it cost him his 13th loss of the season.
As soon as Lilly handed the ball to Scott Elbert, the Brewers’ Jonathan Lucroy hammered a 408-feet long one-run homer to elevate the lead to 2-0. Mike MacDougal replaced Elbert, but before he stabilised, the Brewers’ Corey Hart blistered a homer to finalise
the game to 3-0 in the eighth inning.
