Milwaukee Brewers defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers romped to another 3-1 dominating triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the series-finale at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Wednesday, August 17 to take a series sweep.
Brewers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and one in the bottom of the seventh to make their notes over the struggling Dodgers. Los Angeles managed just one run in the top of the seventh inning.
The Brewers’ starter Zach Greinke get his fifth straight win and seventh of the last eighth game to be ranked amongst the top pitchers of National League. 27-year-old right-hand ball thrower gave away just five hits and one run along with three walks over
seven innings to record his twelfth overall win of the 2011 regular season. He also struck-out eight batters to improve his record to 151 in just 20 starts.
"It's definitely not locked up or anything, but if we continue playing well, it should happen," Greinke said. "It's on us, mainly. We just have to keep doing as good as we are doing or close to that and make it as tough as possible on the other teams. It
is ours to lose."
With this win, the National League’s club Brewers gained their 19th win of the last 21 games to remain the NL central-leader and 7 games ahead of St. Louis Cardinals. It was the Cardinals sixth straight win and they have not lost since the 5-2
defeat by rivals Cardinals on Thursday, August 11.
On the other hand, it was the Dodgers’ third straight win despite they had taken series sweep over the Houston Astros before entering to these competitions. However, their manager Don Mattingly, a former New York Yankees’ captain, did not show a sign a anxiety.
He said, "We realistically (are) not mathematically eliminated, but realistically we haven't shown that we are the kind of club that can go rattle off 10 in a row."
The Dodgers’ rookie starter Nate Eovaldi started strongly and held the Brewers’ bat scoreless in his first five innings, but in the sixth gave little wobbly pitches that cost him his first loss of the season.
