Milwaukee Brewers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 – MLB Update
Zack Greinke came up with unplayable fastballs on Friday, August12 to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 at Miller Park.
Greinke put in a brilliant pitching performance for eight innings to provide a conclusive win for the Brewers over the Pirates.
Even Greinke himself was satisfied with the performance that he put. "Fastball was pretty good. Curve was as good as it's been, slider was good, changeup was good," said Greinke, who had nine strike-outs in just over seven innings. "If you've got three pitches
going good, you should be fine. I had four."
Standing fourth in the MLB Ranking and leading the Central Division, the Milwaukee Brewers’ this victory took the number of wins to 68 now, standing a good chance to go up in the times ahead with this extraordinarily good feat.
The Brewers made an ideal start on Friday after Zack Greinke pitched a shut-out first. Josh Wilson snapped in a single in the second to give the Brewers 1-0 lead by the end of the inning. Greinke, on the other hand, kept the lead intact with his hitless
fastballs.
"With Zack, we're all expecting him to be this guy that he was a couple of years ago," Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said. "I don't know if he'll ever get to that point where he has that kind of full season, but this outing out there tonight, that was really
good stuff.”
Casey McGehee took Paul Maholm to task in the third inning and tripled to deep centre to take the Brewers lead to 3-0. Maholm gave up three hits in the inning and allowed two runs that only piled up pressure on the Brewers.
While Greinke proved to be too tough to play, Ryan Braun hit a sacrifice fly against Paul Maholm to take the Brewers lead to 4-0. With Maholm unable to contain the Brewers’ hitters, he was relieved by Jason Grilli, while Greinke continued his march till
the eighth inning.
Entering into the eighth, Zack Greinke allowed two runs in the inning as Micahel McKenry and Andrew McCutchen scored a single each to bring the Brewers lead down to 4-2. But that was not to affect the Brewers’ offence, rather it reinvigorated them.
Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder had a homer each while Jonathan Lucroy hit an RBI single to take the Brewers lead up to 7-2 by the end of the eighth inning against Joe Beimel. That was the lead that Kameron Loe had to defend as a closer.
Loe came and threw a hitless inning, allowing no run in the ninth to give a safe 7-2 victory to the Brewers against the straining Pittsburgh Pirates’ offence.
