Milwaukee Brewers defeat San Francisco Giants 3-2 on last pitch - MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers romped to a 3-2 victory in the last inning of the second game against the San Francisco Giants at Miller Park, on Saturday, May 29 to tie the three-game series 1-all.
Carlos Gomez launched an inside-the-park homer off the Giants’ starter Jonathan Sanchez in the first inning to provide his team an early 1-0 lead. The Brewers scored the second run when Casey McGehee hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field in the fourth inning
after Sanchez has tossed two shut-out innings.
After allowing these runs, Sanchez struck back completely and this time he did not let the Brewers make another run until the end of his spell in the seventh inning.
On the other hand, the Brewers’ starter Randy Wolf was pitching fast unplayable pitches to the Giants’ batters. He held the defending World Series Champions scoreless until the eighth inning. When he handed the ball to reliever Kameron Loe the game went
into the Giants’ side.
The Giants’ Freddy Sanchez grounded into the fielder’s choice to the left-side of the field while Andres Torres scored a lead off run due to an error by the third baseman McGehee. Due to this error, Aaron Rowand reached second base and then left-fielder
Pat Burrell drove in a single to the left-side of the field to gain a game-tying RBI single.
These runs also restrict Wolf from earning his shut-out game as he has not allowed any run before handing the ball to Kameron Loe. However, Wolf allowed two runs on three hits, walked two and struck-out five batters over seven innings.
The game was tied at 2-2 at the bottom of the ninth inning and it might have gone into extra innings, if the Brewers’ pinch-hitter Jonathan Lucroy would not have scored an RBI single so cunningly. When Lucroy entered the plate, Ryan Braun was on third and
Prince Fielder was on second, as Yuniesky Betancourt was on first base. Lucroy just stopped the pitch of the Giants’ closer Guillermo Mota and allowed Braun to score a leading run.
"It says a lot about our team, how we face adversity," Lucroy said. "We just do anything we can to win. We can hit home runs to beat you. Today, I got the squeeze that way. We find different ways to beat people. With the way our team's pitching, I think
we can give anybody a run for their money."
Sanchez allowed two runs on two hits, walked four and struck out eight batters over seven innings but remained scoreless. Reliever Sergio Romo threw one scoreless inning while closer Mota was about to finish his last inning when he consumed the defeat earning
run.
