Milwaukee Brewers defeat San Francisco Giants 6-0 - MLB Update
The National League’s Milwaukee Brewers overpowered rivals San Francisco Giants 6-0 in the second straight outing of the three-game series at Miller Park on Sunday, May 29 to lead the series 2-1.
The Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said, "We got some timely hitting; we ran the bases really well. Getting on this roll put us back, not just when you look at the standings, but it put us in a place where these guys, I hope, believe that this team is good
as I keep telling them they are."
The Brewers’ starter, Yovani Gallardo had an outstanding day with the ball as he did not allow even a single run to earn his seventh win of the series. The right-hand pitcher entered the plate in the first inning and took the game into his control. He struck
out five batters allowed one walk and four scoreless hits over eight innings to set the foundation for the batters.
As Gallardo held the opposition to no-score, the Brewers’ bat made contact right from the first inning. Ryan Braun hit an infield RBI single to lead off the game while Casey McGehee, who in the last game was in the dominating position with the bat, added
the second RBI single to take an early 2-0 lead.
The second inning did see any runs, as the Brewers Prince Fielder did not let the Giants’ starter Matt Cain to settle down and hit hard to centre-field for an RBI single in the third inning to take the lead 3-0.
After this single, Cain again struck back and tossed two scoreless innings. In the sixth inning though, he again threw a wobbly pitch to Rickie Weeks, who touched it to the deep left side of the field to gain an RBI double and took the lead to 5-0.
"The biggest thing is just relaxing, really," Weeks said. "When you get three or four shutout innings right there, it gives your offense a chance to get up there and do some things that you want to do."
Cain threw six innings, allowed five runs on eleven hits, walked one and struck out six batters before handing the ball to reliever Jeremy Affeldt, who allowed an RBI single on the third pitch of his short spell. Affeldt allowed another hit but it did not
go for an RBI, however he finished his one inning striking-out a batter.
The Brewers were enjoying a 6-0 lead in the seventh inning and their closer LaTroy Hawkins threw a perfect last inning to elevate his club into their 29th win of the season.
The Giants’ closer Santiago Casilla also tossed a scoreless eighth inning but he did not receive any support from the batters.
