Milwaukee Brewers defeat Seattle Mariners 5-4 – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers put in a brilliant performance as they defeated Seattle Mariners 5-4 in their Cactus League game at Peoria Sports Complex, Arizona on Wednesday, March 16.
The Brewers converted the drawn game into success with Rickie Weeks, Casey McGehee and Jeremy Reed’s significant contributions. In the ninth inning close confrontation moved to the Brewers side as they overpowered the Mariners.
Mariners led off in the first inning with a single but could not maintain the lead for long as the Brewers managed to tie the game in the second inning. Brewers attained impetus as they continued to score in the third, fourth and fifth innings to move the
lead to 4-1. The Mariners bounced back in the seventh innings levelling 4-4 when short-stop Brendan Ryan hammered a three-run homer to Zach Braddock, who was going scoreless with one strike-out. The drawn game took a dramatic change in the ninth inning with
Reed’s single that earned the 12th win to the Brewers table.
Weeks facilitated the victory getting three doubles as he maintained his average to .448.
"He is swinging real well," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He had a couple of games there where he didn't but he can turn it around and show what he did today. Plus he's forcing it by taking some extra bases, too. Not like they're automatic doubles."
Yovani Gallardo expressed his class starting for Brewers and allowed just one run on three hits in four innings while he struck-out three important batters. Brewers’ pitchers are enjoying spring, as four out of six did not allow any run while three remain
hitless.
Rookie Michael Pineda, who is competing for a fifth rotation spot in the Mariners’ line-up, could not display his full potential as he permitted three runs including two earned on seven hits in four innings. However, he managed to strike-out three batters
that provided some relief in his road towards rotation spot.
Pineda’s competition has shortened as Mariners’ non-roster invitee Nate Robertson has been gone on four weeks rest due to arthroscopic surgery he had on Wednesday.
Though the Mariners lost their fifth game in spring, they have had a good season winning ten including seven home wins.
