Milwaukee Brewers deliberate over next move – MLB News
Deliberations continue over the next Milwaukee Brewers’ move after the news surfaced that the club was looking to sign free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse. Provided the price is right, which at the moment somehow does not, the Brewers may go for it without any
second thought.
As the Springing Training draws near, the Brewers are expected to make their move as far as having pitchers in the rotation is concerned. Kyle Lohse figures as one central pitcher. However, a few things need to be considered by the Brewers.
First, brining Lohse means the Brewers have to dash out a big sum of money since Lohse had declined a qualifying offer made by his former club – the St. Louis Cardinals. Add to it the fact that the Cards would want a Draft pick too.
However, all the aforementioned reasons are hardly going to be a stumbling block here. The Brewers seem all braced to have Lohse in the side if things go as planned. Brewers’ principal owner Mark Attanasio has his view to share on the subject that has commanded
attention of fans.
Having made many such moves in the past as well, the Brewers know well how they have to go about this move. Thus there is neither any unnecessary haste nor indecisiveness in this regard. In fact, everything has to be done with all calculations.
"I think you have to look at the whole picture," Attanasio said. "We've given up picks before, and when we got CC [Sabathia] and we got Zack [Greinke], we gave up more than draft compensation -- we gave up ready-to-go young players. This season, we're mindful
of the fact that if we do add some pieces, we may have to give up some young players.”
That which the Brewers are not oblivious to is the fact that Kyle Lohse has remained a consistent pitcher whose performance helped the Cards be where they stood during the last two season. In 2011, they won the World Series, and in 2012, they made it to
the National League Championship Series.
Lohse’s role, like said earlier, was central in that. As to how would the contract go, principal owner Mark Attanasio is looking into it.
"There's always a chance," Attanasio said. "Again, it's a function of size of contract, length of contract. Kyle had a phenomenal two seasons the last two seasons. We just have to see if that fits in our overall scheme."
