Milwaukee Brewers ease past San Diego Padres 5-3 – MLB Recap
Milwaukee Brewers eased past the San Diego Padres 5-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, October 1 at Miller Park in Milwaukee.
"I don't think anyone thought we would have a winning season, considering where we were in August, We wanted to be in the playoffs, but we never gave up this year. I think we really showed the character of the team," said catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
Brewers’ pitching remained consistent throughout the entire game and provided the team a great win over the Padres.
From their starting pitcher to reliever, Brewers’ every player on the mound proved their valour and rattled the Padres with great force.
Starter Shaun Marcum pitched a solid six innings and received two runs and six hits. He struck-out two while he managed to remain persistent on his 3.70 ERA.
"He mixed speeds well and really battled, We always knew Shaun knew how to pitch. It is just a question of keeping him healthy," Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke.
Reliever Jim Henderson pitched one inning and received one run and two hits on his 3.14 ERA. He struck-out two while he remained confident on the mound for a short spell which literally smoothed the winning way for the Brewers.
Closer John Axford also played wonderfully and proved one of the winning factors for his team. He pitched one inning and did not receive any run or hit while he managed to strike-out three potential Padres' batters on his 4.81 ERA with great force.
"This shows that perserverance pays off, We never gave up despite our record in August. I think we have a very good team and am confident we can rebound next season," said John Axford.
Brewers’ hitters also contributed with their powerful hitting. They scored runs on quick successions and later maintained their focus upon the Padres which ultimately provided them a superb victory.
