Milwaukee Brewers edge Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 at Miller Park – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers edged Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, June 18 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rickie Weeks provided the Brewers with a decent start as he singled to centre in the first inning to make the score 2-1 in his team’s favour. Norichika Aoki reached on bunt single to second in the second inning to extend his side’s lead to 3-1.
Ryan Braun also displayed some top quality hitting skills as he grounded into fielder’s choice to third in the second inning to help the Brewers take complete control of the situation.
However, the star of the show was Aramis Ramirez who doubled to deep right centre in the second and hit the tie breaking home run in the seventh inning.
“Yeah, it will be some fun since the last time I was here with the A-ball team (Wisconsin, 2009),” Brett Lawrie said in a post game interview. “It’s been kind of a wild road but finally I got here.
“We put up runs but they swung the bats well, too,” Lawrie said. “When that happens it becomes a dog fight and unfortunately for us we lost.”
“I think so, I think that was a big game-changer,” Lawrie said. “Unfortunately the first guy that came up (Ramirez) nicked the wall, they went up by one and that’s all she wrote.”
Credit should also be given to the Blue Jays for showing incredible pressure handling ability. With Milwaukee leading the score 6-1, they looked down and out.
Edwin Encarnacion brought Toronto back into the game as he homered to left in the sixth. Jose Bautista also made the most of available opportunities, hitting a mighty three run home run to left in the seventh to level score 6-6.
Relief pitcher Kameron Loe was extremely lucky to be credited with win despite the fact he allowed a three run home run to Bautista in the seventh inning. Closer John Axford showed great control and accuracy over his throwing to earn his 12th save
in 15 chances.
