Milwaukee Brewers envisage a strong season in 2013– MLB News
Although the Milwaukee Brewers are formally out of the postseason hunt, manager Ron Roenicke on Monday, October 1, expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance. The Brewers who had made it to the playoffs the past season could not repeat history here due to a host of reasons.
However, the first half of the season which was particularly disappointing was phenomenally different in the second half when the Brewers at one point had a 24-6 record.
"It was just that I was happy with the way we came back and got back into this thing," Roenicke said. "A couple of months ago, we didn't think we would be to this point."
Brewers saw ascension in the second half as they were unable to sustain it, losing six out of the last nine games they played. Such an unexpected slump at the crucial stage of the second half of the season proved utterly disastrous for the Brewers.
Especially disappointing was the three-game series against the Houston Astros that ended on Sunday; wherein the Astros beat the Brewers 2-1.
Now that the Brewers are playing the last series of the season against the San Diego Padres, Ron Roenicke does not fail to acknowledge the appreciably indefatigable efforts that the players as a whole put throughout the season.
“They all wanted to play," Roenicke said. "There will be a couple of guys off [Tuesday], probably, but if guys want to play, I want them to play. I think they played so hard recently, and they just want to finish it out right. I like it. I think it's great. Hopefully next year we're at this spot right here and we're fighting to see how deep we'll go into the playoffs."
The past season saw the Brewers doing well with the batters and the bullpen. This year, on both fronts, the Brewers were not up to the mark that resulted in their decline. Even though bullpen did manage to put things in order again, it was too late.
Nonetheless, with the lesson they have had this year, the Brewers hope to fare better in 2013.
